What Is Elementor & How Does It Work?

Learn how Elementor fits into WordPress, what the visual editor controls, and when paid features change the workflow.

Elementor is a WordPress website-building plugin centered on a visual editor. The free plugin handles core visual page building; paid Editor Pro plans extend the workflow into broader site-building features.

Where Elementor sits

WordPress remains the content-management system. Elementor provides an editing and design layer on top of it.

Core editing model

You build layouts visually using containers and widgets, then control content, spacing, typography, responsive behavior and styling from the editor.

Free and paid layers

Elementor Core is available from the WordPress plugin repository. Paid plans extend the feature set with Theme Builder and, depending on tier, advanced forms, popups, dynamic content, custom code/CSS and ecommerce features.

Theme relationship

Elementor works with WordPress themes, but Theme Builder can take over visual control of key recurring site areas.

Publishing

Pages and templates are saved back into WordPress. As with any builder, keep backups and test major updates on important production sites.

Who it is for

It suits users who prefer visual site building and want a substantial amount of design control without defaulting to custom theme development.
